Purpose
The Co.AI Collective provides university-wide leadership, coordination, and oversight
for responsible and human-centered AI adoption at the University of North Dakota.
Co.AI supports alignment across academic, research, operational, and administrative
units to ensure AI initiatives advance UND’s mission while upholding privacy, ethics,
compliance, and institutional values.
Co.AI functions as UND’s central governance structure for artificial intelligence
strategy, engagement, policy guidance, and implementation.
Co.AI ensures that:
- AI is used in ways that support teaching, learning, research, and service.
- UND is prepared for rapid changes in AI capabilities and application.
- Governance structures promote transparency, accountability, equity, and responsible
use.
- AI work across colleges and units is coordinated and not siloed.
- UND maintains a proactive, mission‑aligned approach to AI innovation.
"Co.AI is an important collection of thought leaders on our UND campus who are examining
the impact of artificial intelligence on the way we educate, the way we discover,
and the way we operate. It is a forum to explore, to imagine, and to critique the
uses of AI on campus and in society."
-President Andy Armacost
UND will play a central role in the future of the human world in the presence of AI and other emerging technologies.
